Two Week Count Down
HELP for our group has come from some unexpected quarters.
The good news is that at last we are lottery winners, the bad news is there wasn't any serious money involved, just a 14 strong team of volunteers from Camelot.
The good news is that at last we are lottery winners, the bad news is there wasn't any serious money involved, just a 14 strong team of volunteers from Camelot.
They spent all day weeding, planting, painting, mulching and clearing rubbish in and around Todmorden.
Two other groups of volunteers also worked tirelessly in our town.
Putting on the undercoat
The first were a group of enthusiastic youngsters, all students at Calderdale Skills Academy, who not only spent hours out and about in our streets painting street furniture but have also produced several super green planters which can be seen around the town. Their work will continue over the days prior to judging.
The second was the probation service, who spent many hours at our railway station, weeding, painting and doing many jobs which were desperate for attention and which we as a group were beginning to wonder whether or not would ever be done. Thankfully, amazing progress was made, a tremendous and professional effort on everyone's part.

We must now appeal to all Todmorden people, groups, organisations, businesses and churches, absolutely everyone, to help finalise the preparation of our town for the judges' inspection on Wednesday, August 8.
Small hands are brilliant with a piant brush and pot of green paint,
and everyone gets stuck in weeding.
Will you give some time to help sweep, weed, clean containers and numerous other jobs that need that little finishing touch these last two weeks leading up to judging.
Todmorden In Bloom was formed some eight years ago by ten local people who had no funds whatsoever but they had a vision. They each chipped in £10 which financed their first task, which was to collect 200 black bin bags of rubbish from around our streets.
We are very proud to say that four of the original ten are still very actively involved in our work and have seen our small town, with the help and support of Todmorden Town Council, many of the town's businesses, groups, organisations and private individuals go from strength to strength and reach a standard worthy of representing Yorkshire within Britain In Bloom. Quite an achievement for any town.
So come on, Todmorden, let's all prove that we can present our town in pristine condition and bring that vision of the original ten to life.
Please telephone Carol on 816489 or Jean on 817492 with any offer of time you have available to help, half an hour, one hour, any amount of time whatsoever.
